After talking with
colleagues, attending soil seminars, and researching
the problem, I came to the conclusion that I needed
help. I needed to upgrade our soil testing program
and I required help interpreting results and devising
a program to improve our soils and minimize the effects
of the salt.
In the early spring of
2003, we hired David Marquardt and started a
comprehensive soil-testing program. Dave was
instrumental in our understanding the scope of
the problem and the course of action necessary to
bring our soil back into balance. His recommendations
were vital to the preparation and success of the Open
and to the future health of the soils and turf at
Olympia Fields Country Club.
